The City of Canton is served by a 20-member volunteer fire department.
In addition, the Canton Fire Department provides fire protection and emergency response services to Canton Township and portions of Amherst, Bluffton (IA) and Burr Oak (IA) townships. The department was officially organized in 1934; however, its beginnings date back to 1889. Over the years, significant investments have been made in emergency response vehicles and equipment. Regular meetings are held the first Monday of the month, with training sessions taking place on the third Monday.

The Harmony Volunteer Ambulance Service has been serving the needs of the area for more than 35 years.

Police Service
The City of Canton contracts with the Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office for its law enforcement needs.
Canton is part of a joint service agreement with the neighboring cities of Harmony and Mabel. Three deputy sheriffs are assigned to the Harmony-Canton-Mabel contract. Current deputies include: Jason Harmening, Logan Brand and Todd Ragen.
