City ordinances require all dogs and cats, over the age of six months, to licensed and registered on an annual basis. The process requires proof of an animal’s current vaccinations. This paperwork must be kept on file at city hall. A yearly pet license costs $6 and cannot be prorated. Licenses are nontransferable from one animal to another and no refunds will be made because of an animal’s death. Valid city-issued tags are required on a pet’s collar at all times. These licensing provisions do not apply to animals whose owners are nonresidents temporarily in the city. 91.02 DOGS AND CATS
PLEASE NOTE: The keeping of three or more dogs on the same premises, whether owned by the same person or not and for whatever purpose kept, constitutes a kennel, which is declared to be a nuisance and not permittable in the city. The only exception is for a new litter of puppies which may be kept for a period of up to three months. The keeping of three or more dogs on the same premises is subject to great abuse, causing discomfort to people in the area by way of smell, noise, hazard and general aesthetic depreciation. 91.06 KENNELS
